Dunedin, pronounced Duh-nee-din, is one of the oldest towns on the West Coast of Florida. It has a small town image but is actually a bustling city of 37,000 with activities for all ages, making Dunedin a truly delightful place to live or visit. Located along the Gulf Coast, just Northeast Clearwater Beach, Dunedin is known for its annual Scottish celebrations and its quaint downtown, among its other allures. Here, you will find a charming and active downtown, beautiful parks, recreational activities for all ages, history, culture and educational opportunities.

Dunedin, sometimes called Dog-edin, is very dog-friendly. You will find most restaurants have dog-friendly patios and most events are dog-friendly as well.

The Dunedin area enjoys near perfect weather, with an average summer high of 80 degrees and a winter low of 62 degrees. Average rainfall is 50 inches per year with the usual summertime afternoon showers.

Dunedin Restaurants:

Dunedin has some the top-rated restaurants in the country; most are located in Downtown Dunedin. For fine-dining, Mediterranean flare, enjoy an indoor or outdoor setting at The Living Room. For mouthwatering, unique southern BBQ, with a dog-friendly outdoor patio, visit the Smokehouse. For Waterfront Dining at Surprisingly Affordable Prices visit Bon Appetit or their sister restaurant in downtown, Café Alfresco. There is even a homemade ice cream parlor, Strachan’s,  offering 15+ ice cream flavors and novelty desserts like chocolate covered Key Lime Pie, Grasshopper Pie and Cobblers.  Other restaurants include an exclusive fine dining restaurant, The Black Pearl and a fabulous sea food restaurant, Sea Sea Riders.

Dunedin Shopping:

A little bit of everything for every taste and budget. With more than 100 privately owned shops, restaurants, bars and pubs, boutiques, art galleries, antiques stores, the downtown area makes shopping convenient and fun in a beautiful setting. Shops include Kina Couture, My Favorite Things, Palm Latitudes: “A Whirlwind trip to the tropics - shop for Key West Style art, crafts, neon, music, jewelry and clothing”. In addition to art galleries, consignment shops and many other unique shopping opportunities.

Only 30 minutes away is the International Plaza offering over 200 specialty stores and restaurants including Gucci, Burberry, Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton, Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. A little farther of a drive, you can take advantage of one of the world’s finest outlet shopping, Ellington Premium Outlets, located in Bradenton.

Dunedin Parks and Recreation:

Just off the coast are Caladesi and Honeymoon Islands, renowned for their unspoiled beauty. Honeymoon Island State Park is less than a five-minute drive from the mainland, and offers a natural getaway for boating, swimming, fishing, picnics, and nature exploration. Caladesi Island State Park, accessible to the public by ferry from Honeymoon Island or by private boat, has consistently been named one of Florida’s top ten beaches. This year Caladesi Island took the coveted #1 spot for the best beach in America according to Dr. Beach.

Along the Dunedin Causeway to Honeymoon Island, within the protected waters of St. Joseph Sound, you will find all the sun and fun activities such as windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, canoeing, jet skiing, or just relaxing and listening to the surf.

The City of Dunedin also has one of the finest municipal marinas on the West Coast of Florida, offering safe harbor for sail and power crafts with dockside conveniences of water and electricity.

Delightful Dunedin, with its rich Scottish heritage, is home to the Annual Highland Games and many other community festivals, making it one of the most popular places to live, work and play.

No car? No problem. Public transportation and the Jolly Trolley run daily.
